About the Artist
In 1974 while living in Seattle, Scott Nelles began his career in the foundry. Seattle had a number of small non-ferrous foundries catering to the fishing industry. Scott was determined to learn the trade of these foundries and apply the skill to art making. Starting with designing belt-buckles, Scott worked with John Fraser, who would show him how to improve his methods and then cast the buckles for him. With some years of practice and observation, Scott decided it was time to open his own foundry. Through the years 1978-2000 he built and grew his business to the point of employing full time help and selling his sculpture nationwide. In 2000, Scot put himself to work creating an entirely new line of pieces. It is this work that is showcased by the toy cars, boats, candlesticks and small animals that he now makes in his studio.
