About the Artist
Edward Jacob has been woodworking for over 38 years. He started out making furniture but his current work consists of boxes and chests. Unhindered by the considerations typical of large functional works, these smaller scale pieces afford him a freedom in design he cherishes. His work has many influences, among them Japanese architecture and modernist sculpture. The contrast in these influences is much akin to the contrast Edward infuses in work. From different hues of color, to curved and straight lines, hard edges and soft, he remarkably achieves a distinct and beautiful unity that is evident in every piece.
